LAKE JACKSON †Mason can be seen running, playing and barking at everything that moves as he meanders through Barbara McClatchey’s home. The black Pomeranian is so full of energy the small limp in his back left leg is hardly noticeable.
Cancer came to Barbara Patterson of Altadena. Her grandchildren, she decided, would be involved from the get-go. Patterson had a bilateral mastectomy on Jan. 29. That was her granddaughter's second birthday.
Incumbent Barbara Perry is running as a Democrat this year, and she faces a strong challenger in Karen Paul, who is running as an independent. Kim Mason, a member of the Burlington's Green Party, is the third candidate.

Barbara Watson has 10 places to put every penny these days, but she puts aside enough to keep up payments on her life insurance policy, a policy that she hopes will motivate her offspring to get an education - then provide a little help once she's gone.
