W.L. Lyons Brown III figured he would spend his entire career at Brown-Forman Corp., the company started by his great-great-grandfather. At one point, it even appeared that Brown was being groomed to become chief executive officer of the Louisville-based liquor company. He rose through the ranks to senior vice president of the beverage division.
